 Established in 1953, Portage Lumber opened its doors for business. It offered "Everything in Building Material"--Lumber, Millwork, Roofing, Builders Hardware, Cement, Plaster, Plywood and Wallboards.
The business has grown over the years and expanded into new products and services along the way. In 1967, the store added a carpet and drapery center. Today the Home Decor Department, under management of Doreen Herbert, offers a wide selection of home decorating products and services.
In 1969, the store was remodeled and took on the Do-it-Center membership and logo. In 2000 a major expansion of the store added 24,000 sq. ft. of retail space and another 8,000 sq. ft. of under-roof lumber space.
In 2003, Premier Rental Center was added to the mix to now offer customers a one-stop shop for all their home improvement needs.
Portage Lumber Do it Best serves professional builders as well with a dedicated sales team and service counter.
Dennis and Ron Dorn are the CEO and COO respectively and manage the various business segments. About 40 team members are employed by Portage Lumber Do it Best as it strives to offer exceptional customer service and value to a mix of retail, professional and commercial customers.
